Oncología intervencionista para tumores de hígado
Chemoembolization
Chemoembolization is an interventional oncology technique that combines chemotherapy with embolization to treat tumors, particularly those in the liver. The procedure involves injecting chemotherapeutic agents directly into the artery supplying the tumor, followed by embolization to block the tumor’s blood flow.
Advantages of Chemoembolization:
- Targeted Treatment: Delivers a high concentration of chemotherapy directly to the tumor, minimizing systemic exposure.
- Tumor Size Reduction: Can help decrease tumor size and improve related symptoms.
- Pain Control: May provide relief from tumor-associated pain.
- Option for Inoperable Patients: Offers an alternative for patients who are not surgical candidates.
- Improved Survival: In some cases, it has been associated with enhanced overall survival and quality of life.
This approach is commonly used for both primary and metastatic liver tumors and may be part of a multimodal treatment strategy.
